  1. It saves time. Using shorthand; omw, ily, wrud, etc, you can share tidbits of info or make quick inquiries in under 15 seconds. An “On My Way” phone call can take upwards of 2 minutes or more, especially if the person on the other end, while having you on the line, suddenly launches into a lecture on the value of timeliness, pointing out how everyone else made it and you alone ruined the big “SURPRISE!” moment.

It’s considerate. Picture a car full; Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Lena, Uncle Harry, cousin Craig with his barking, portable flea hotel, windows down, slobber flying, the annoying Aussie living in Uncle Harry’s GPS cursing your poor navigational skills, Grandma still berating Grandpa for missing that exit 50 miles ago, forcing us onto a toll road, costing her that $7.00 she had allotted for snacks at the next rest stop so now he’ll have to just starve until we make it to mile marker 351, as prearranged, at which point it will be acceptable to actually stop at a restaurant to grab some lunch and you’re suddenly hit with a pang of guilt demanding the immediate full disclosure of last night’s drunken ass grab on your neurotic best friend’s boyfriend because you remember now that it happened as Gina was mid-snap on a group pic that’s probably already been uploaded to Facebook.  It just wouldn’t be right to make your best friend wait another two hours until you reach mile marker 351 at which point you’ll be able to disembark the vehicle to find a moment of solitude to explain that Art had startled you from behind forcing the reflexive, forward reaching, hand clenching motion that happened to land upon her boyfriend’s sexy, juicy bum as he happened by at that exact and precise, time and place. I mean, what if she already saw the pic on Facebook.
